Africa New Energies has a unique opportunity to access a wide variety of concessionary funds. This is largely because of the company’s versatility and adoption of new technology and novel exploration techniques. This position also means that it is capable of promoting and supporting budding entrepreneurs so as to encourage the start of businesses in its relevant sector. The following projects are those the Africa New Energies is paying particular attention to.
Africa New Energies’ shareholders were funded for the initial pre-feasibility study into its universal electricity access strategy, on which the company’s strategy was built by the Zurich-based African Innovation Foundation, where it was the first recipient of the African Innovation Foundation Award.
Africa New Energies intends to support local South African technology skill and entrepreneurial development. It hopes to do this by opening the first South African research grant funded innovation hub. This will support young hopeful entrepreneurs in applying for research grant funding and providing a support platform for the development and launching of their products or services. Of particular focus for this hub will be the Special Program for Industrial Innovation – A South African research and development grant.
Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation program ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market. Africa New Energies has partnered with the University of Brunswick and a number of small private enterprises to put forward an application for this grant. This grant application will be for Africa New Energies to support this coalition in developing and testing new airborne surveying equipment. The equipment will include a novel combination of airborne surveying equipment that will provide a complete set of exploration data .
Africa New Energies has a number informal partnerships in South Africa with budding black entrepreneurs. We consider it our social responsibility to support these individuals in their ventures wherever possible. At present we are doing so by supporting GeoDesic, a drilling services company (http://www.geodesicdrilling.co.za/). We are supporting in this project by providing a launch pad of their service through our drilling program.
